Canon G10

Canon G10 Review

This is a little review of the Canon G10. Overall a great little pocket camera. Over the past few months I have shot about 2000 images with the G10. It's quality is acceptable in well lit situations where you can use ISO 200 and lower. Inside at ISO 400 and above the images are noisy and terrible.

Video quality is pretty good. I have been shooting a lot of videos of Luca and edit them in iMovie. THe only note is to not Zoom when shooting in video mode. This crops the clip rather than zooming the lens.

Would you recommend the G10 or G11 overall as a good "walk around" camera when you don't feel like toting a DSLR?

One of the best options! Yes. The g11 has better image quality but was made thicker to accomodate the swivel screen. Another good option would be the panasonic lx3

Great reply. OK then, for your use do you like the G11 or the LX3 best best? Why? Thanks so much for your input.

Not sure. I have not spent very much time with the LX3. If I remember correctly it's raw files are not supported by many apps. But that should get checked out. Usually Adobe and Apple update the raw libraries slowly. So it may be supported now. I would say the G10-11 have have better overall controls but are chunky. The LX3 is more of pocket compact with great image quality. I hate going in to the menu to change exposure comp or asa. That is where the G series shines. If you are a auto or set it and forget shooter then the LX3 may be the better choice.
